Susie is from Hunan.

She contracted polio shortly after birth. The virus not only affected her legs, but also her spine. She couldn't stand up. She could only rely on two benches and sit on the ground to move around.

She has no formal job. She used to do some temporary jobs, doing manual work. The income per day is about US$3.

Recently she borrowed money to go to a hospital in a big city for an operation. According to doctors, after a period of recovery, she may be able to stand up using a brace.
